is a head of the Holography Laboratory at NIKFI*. He served as Director and Depute Director of NIKFI from 1950 to 1981, where he developed numerous projects in cinematography, including inventing the first integrated system of holographic cinema technology.

He has published over 180 scientific papers during his distinguished career and holds several meritorious titles, including Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Cavalier of several Russian National Orders, a French Order for "Achievements in Cinematography". His numerous international affiliations include Honorary Member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (USA), Honorary Member of the British Cinematography, Sound and Television Society, and Honorary Member of the International Union of Cinematographic Associations.


*NIKFI – Russian Cinema & Photo Research Institute

is a Moscow-based State enterprise founded in 1929. It is the unique in Russia and in the world scientific center for the development of methods and technologies for professional cinematograph, photography and other media. Dr. Yuri Ovechkis' Holographic Studio is a part of the NIKFI, established as a special technological facility for the hologram production, including the improvement of holographic photo-materials and their chemical-photographic processing. Dr. Victor Rubel's Media Laboratory is a part of the Laboratories for Fundamental Research (LFR), located in Palo Alto, California. It represents the interests of Professor Komar's research group and the commercial development of their holographic and 3d digital technologies at the international level.
